RUN STUDIOS
RUN Studios is based in Seattle and services visionaries worldwide. This full-service production studio connects clients with contractors in all aspects of media production. I’m honored that RUN Studios contracted me with Amazon’s Device, Digital, & Alexa Support (D2AS) team as a production coordinator and a visual training experience technician (VTET) during the latter half of 2021. This opportunity provided the valuable experience in working corporate media within a major market.
PRODUCTION COORDINATOR
As production coordinator, I supported my fellow contractors in all aspects of their work. I worked most closely with a contracted associate producer and Amazon’s studio operation manager with responsibilities ranging from video accessibility, video localization, studio setup, cinema camera operation, teleprompter operation, audio mixing, and audio fingerprinting.
Daily workflow begins with my associate producer sourcing voice actors from external organizations and internally and passing on the raw audio files to me for editing. I would cut and adjust audio levels to Amazon’s standards and provided scripts. Next, I sent the mixed audio loops to our motion designers to apply to their work as voice overs. After the videos are finalized, motion designers send them back to me for captioning and subtitling. You can read more about this process here. After captioning, I oversaw fingerprinting for keywords that activated Amazon’s Alexa devices. This is crucial to ensure customer devices won’t activate during video play through near their Amazon Alexa devices. The captioning, audio mixing and fingerprinting includes over 10 languages and countries: mainly including countries that speak English, Spanish, Japanese, Italian, German, Arabic, Portuguese, and French. You can read more about the captioning process here.
PRODUCTION ASSISTANT
Along with coordinating motion graphic design videos, I held a PA role at Amazon’s studio. I attended dry runs and assisted the lead motion designer in equipment setup: including preparations for lighting, camera placement, wardrobe management, set decoration, and teleprompter operation. In the studio, I developed skills in operating Canon cinema cameras, creating moleskin sandwiches for lavalier microphones, and using Open Broadcasting Software (OBS) to mirror a teleprompter app. Read more about my PA work with Amazon here.
SIMULATION DEVELOPER
After 3 months as a production coordinator, I began working as a Visual Training Experience Technician (VTET). During this experience, I used Proto.io for developing simulations of Amazon apps and device UI. The customer service team uses our simulations to train and use Amazon devices and apps remotely. During my time, I developed and updated 6 simulations, including apps and devices that needed non-disclosure agreements and in the beta stage.
